Mark Rothko was a colour field painter, he is known for his large scale paintings of colour usually in rectangular blocks on a coloured background. A lot of thought was put in to the composition, scale, depth and balance of the paintings, they are often based on human emotions and the huge scale is designed to encompass the viewer. I have found his work very inspiring for my colour project, how he has used colour, the proportions and palettes. To draw something I can just pick out the colour to draw rather than getting distracted with the actual shapes and forms.
